Breast Reduction

Disproportionately large and saggy breasts cause both aesthetic and functional limitations in women and may decrease their quality of life. Therefore, plastic surgeries performed to get more upright and aesthetic breasts of suitable volume and size with the body are called breast reduction surgery. It is one of the plastic surgeries with the highest patient satisfaction. The aim of the operation is to get a healthy breast that is aesthetically beautiful, suitable for the body, and that functions such as breastfeeding and nipple sensation are preserved. After the breast reduction surgery, it was scientifically shown that there was a decrease in the patients’ neck and back pain, correction in under breast fold skin infections, improvements in stance and posture, increase in lung and exercise capacity, convenience in finding clothes and increase in the quality of life.

Breast reduction surgeries can be performed before and after the breastfeeding period, but in nursing mothers, breastfeeding should have ended and at least 6 months should have passed since then. It is preferred that breastfeeding processes are completed to achieve aesthetically lasting results.

The variables such as the planned breast size and volume, location of surgical incision and marks, breastfeeding function, shape and symmetry are discussed and planned in detail with the patient in the interview had before the operation. A breast scan for mass is made with mammography and breast ultrasound before the operation based on the patient’s age, and these examinations are recommended to be repeated 6 months after the operation.
Breast volumes and sizes are reduced and also breast lifting and shaping procedures are performed during the breast reduction surgeries.

The operation lasts 2-4 hours under general anesthesia, and the duration of hospital stay is one day. It is necessary to wear a specific bra corset that preserves the form of the breast for 2-3 weeks after the operation. The period for patients to return to daily life is about two weeks. It is recommended to use various scar gels for the recovery and blurring of scars. It takes approximately one year for the breasts to take its final form and completion and finalization of wound healing.

The duration of hospital stay after the operation is one week for patients coming from abroad.
